"There are no shortcuts to any place worth going"

I've been dragging my feet lately when it comes to blogging. The truth is, I haven't put in the consistent effort required for this platform to take off but I still feel frustrated with the results. The new year feels like that to me most years, and I don't think I'm entirely alone in this. Instead of delving into every little thing I would change about myself, how about I address all of the lack of consistent effort around here.

I'm not trying to get tough with you, but with myself. I could lament the 50 lbs I didn't lose last year, but if I'm honest with myself I would say that I habitually give up on Me, waiting for a date to come along on the calendar that somehow gives me permission to improve. I have been working towards the goal of getting some of the stories I have written published. Am I there yet? NOPE. Was it because of a lack of consistent effort? YOU BETCHA!

"There are no shortcuts to any place worth going.

I spent last year thinking about working towards my goals. Planning on working towards my goals, organizing my plans for my goals, pondering my goals, musing over my goals, reflecting over my goals, thinking positively and trying to visualize my goals...yet here we sit...goal free.

I read a quote (I don't know who wrote it but I know I did not, so don't come after me) that said

"There are no shortcuts to any place worth going." Am I short cutting my way through life?

The Law of Momentum

Our world is full of positive thinkers and visualization experts that tell us about the law of attraction, but I would like to suggest a new law...I have a theory about the Law of Momentum. Whereas the law of attraction doesn't TECHNICALLY fall under a scientific law (not taking away its credence I am TOTALLY sold on the thoughts are things argument), The law of Momentum does. It is a tried and true scientific law which helps govern this world.

The Law of Momentum simply put is the product of the mass and velocity of an object, The momentum is the "power" when an object is moving, or how much force it can have on another object.

I wonder if I can use this law to my advantage? the Law of Attraction tells us we can attract whatever we are focusing on, as long as we put in the effort and hold the belief with unwavering Faith inside our minds. The Law of Momentum simply put is the product of the mass and velocity of an object, The momentum is the "power" when an object is moving, or how much force it can have on another object.

Now stay with me, part of the Law of Momentum (MASS in Motion) is about IMPULSE. This is the change in momentum caused by a New Force (F). A force which will increase or decrease the momentum depending on the direction of the force. If the new force is going in the same direction of the momentum of the Object (X), the momentum of the object will increase. If the opposite exists, the momentum decreases.

What does all of this have to do with me and my goals? Everything.

Force (F) = Myself and My Actions
Object (X) = My Goals

If I am the force required to act upon an object (my goals), I have simply not created enough momentum for success. Period. Once a ball gets rolling it keeps rolling until it hits friction or a hill (problems and set backs), and then the momentum decreases. A NEW force is required to get that ball rolling again. Only I can create the Impulse required to change the momentum of the goals in my life.

I am the NEW FORCE! (Maybe Obi-Wan Kenobi was on to something....)

This is a Scientific Law that helps to govern this universe, So simply put...if I am CONSISTENT in my efforts, and act as THE FORCE to be reckoned with when working towards my goals, the momentum of this consistent force, will cause an increase in the momentum of my life. It is at this point MY job to conserve this momentum.

So then the question of the day becomes HOW? How am I going to do this? How am I supposed to suddenly use the Force within me to propel change?

New Habits. Insert collective groan here. I know, but hear me out...

I read an article by James Clear that talks about how long it takes to break a habit, you can find the article here, but to summarize he theorizes that it takes 66 days of consistent change to change your habits in a meaningful way. I am using this guideline in my own experiment this year. For the next 66 days I have outlined some new habits I would like to form myself (I will go into detail in a later post).

Instead of focusing on everything I deem wrong with myself, I will attempt to create new habits for myself that serve me physically, mentally and spiritually. I will create habits that will hopefully act as the catalysts needed to bring about the momentum required for positive change in my life. Not because I am lacking or missing something within myself, but because I have everything I need at my disposal inside of me already, and it is time to start treating myself with the kindness I try to show to others.

What will happen on day 67? I guess we will have to wait to find out.
